Our Team

Board of Directors and Administration

Sundowners is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors made up of Public and Catholic School Board representatives and community members. An Executive Director, Coordinators, Administration, Supervisors, Registered Early Childhood Educators and Cooks make up the organization as a whole. Sundowners is a non-profit, registered charity that was incorporated in 1987 and is governed by the Ministry of Education, Early Years Division and licensed under the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014.

Qualified and Knowledgeable Staff

As part of our commitment to the children and families we serve all of our educators are Registered Early Childhood Educators and are encouraged and committed to on-going professional learning and training opportunities. They are responsive, respectful, and dedicated to the children as individuals while nurturing their social/emotional, cognitive and physical development and growth. All Early Childhood Educators are registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario and must remain in “good standing”. In order to confirm an ECE is registered and in good standing — reference can be found by following the link: http://www.college-ece.ca

Criminal Reference Check and First Aid/CPR Training

All Sundowners employees must have a “clear” Criminal Reference Check and must remain in “good standing” on an on-going basis while in our employ. The majority of staff is certified and trained in Infant/Child First Aid and C.P.R.

Building and Training the Future Early Childhood Educators

Sundowners also works in partnership with St. Clair College, Early Childhood Education faculty to provide ECE students with their field placement experience and training within our centres. Our qualified staff act as role models and trainers to provide the ECE student with great learning and training opportunities based on their years of experience and expertise in the field.

Cooks – Promoting Safe and Healthy Nutrition

At Sundowners we believe that children should be introduced to fresh wholesome and healthy foods. Our goal is to promote the development of healthy food habits and to provide nutritious meals and snacks at all times. All of our Centre Cooks have been trained and certified in the SAFE FOOD HANDLING COURSE through the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit. All food that is provided will offer varying food choices that meet the Canada Food Guide requirements and standards.

Community Partners

All of our programs are located in schools because we strongly believe this model of care is one of the best options for families today. This model of care is also the model of choice by the Ministry of Education through the School’s First Policy. Sundowners provides services in partnership with the Greater Essex County District School Board, the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board, the City of Windsor and the local area office of the Ministry of Education. We welcome all children who may benefit from our programs.
