About Sundowners Daycare and Resource Centre

Sundowners Day Care and Resource CentreSundowners Day Care and Resource Centre is a non-profit organization that provides a variety of services throughout Essex County. It’s Board of Directors is committed to supporting high-quality accessible care for from toddler through school-age children. This is being addressed in part by operating a variety of child care services including full-day, and before and after school programs, in a school-based, centre environment. Workshops designed by Sundowners are available for children 9-12 years, and can be used to assist in developing "self care" skills.

Who We Are
Sundowners Day Care and Resource Centre is a charitable non-profit organization located in Windsor, Ontario.

An “Umbrella” model of governance was chosen by the Board of Directors to ensure consistent and reliable program quality for centres located in a variety of school communities.

Founded in 1987 with a mandate to develop school based child care and related support services for children and their families.

We are a group of over 100 professionals committed to creating a system of school based services for children.

Achieving Our Goals

April 1987

  • Date of incorporation for Sundowners Day Care and Resource Centre

September 1987

  • Opening of Sundowners – Chalmers Child Care Centre

  • Opening of Sundowners – Warm Line Program

September 1990

  • Selected by the Windsor Catholic School Board to assist in the development of a new model of school based child care.

  • Opening of Christ the King, St. Angela, St. John Vianney Child Care Centres.

  • Opening of Sundowners Resource Centre Services

September 1997

  • Opening of 7 new school based centres

September 1998

  • Selected as provider for existing school based services
       8 new Centres – Greater Essex County District School Board

January 1999

  • Opening of Sundowners - Our Lady of Perpetual Help

December 1999

  • Opening of Sundowners - General Brock

2000-01

  • 3 new Centres- Windsor Essex Catholic and Greater Essex County District School Boards

2002

  • 17 Sundowners school based centres assisting over 1,000 children each year…..A 2002 Biz-X Oscar Award Winner

  • Sundowners will continue to work towards the expansion of school based child care services in our community.

2006

  • Opening of L.A. Desmarais and Forest Glade Primary Learning Centre Child Care Centres through the Best Start Initiative.

2007

  • Sundowners celebrates our 20th anniversary of service to the Windsor-Essex County Community.

2008

  • Selected as provider for existing school-based services at Talbot Trail School.

  • Opening of 2 new centres - Greater Essex County District School Board.
