Kindergarten Before and After School Programs
The extended day care program is complementary to the core Full-Day Kindergarten program your child attends and is meant to align with it in order to provide a seamless and consistent experience for the children. The extended day program is an integral part of the full day program and is offered by Sundowners before the core day school program begins and continues until a parent has picked them up at the end of day. The kindergarten before and after school program is licensed by the Ministry of Education and staffed with Registered Early Childhood Educators. The extended day program offers an approach to pedagogy and planning that is consistent with the approach taken in the core day program and makes use of shared resources and shared common spaces whenever possible. Our kindergarten before and after school programs are created for a seamless system of care and education for the children and families we serve.
The extended day program is play-based learning and is intended to provide a balance of investigation and exploration opportunities for children. These experiences and opportunities allow children to build on their existing knowledge, create and clarify their own new understanding of the world in which they live.
- “Play nourishes every aspect of children’s development- it forms the foundation of intellectual, social, physical, and emotional skills necessary for success in school and in life. Play “paves the way for learning”. – Canadian Council on Learning (Early Learning Knowledge Centre)
